Resizing a Window

When you open a Word window, it appears in a preset size. You can change the size of the Word program window using the set of buttons , called resizing tools, in the upper-right corner of the Word window. The resizing tools appear in the blue title bar at the very top of the Word window. Resizing the window allows you to work with more than one document, or even more than one program, on your desktop at one time. When you resize a Word window, it only affects that particular document and window. It does not change the size of any other documents or windows you have open.

Resize a Window

  • Minimize a window . To reduce a window to a button on the taskbar, click the Minimize button.

  • Maximize a window . To maximize a window to fit the screen, click the Maximize button. Note that the button changes to Restore Down. This button toggles between these two settings.

  • Restore a window . To revert from the full screen maximized view to a normal window, click the Restore Down button. Notice that the button changes to Maximize. This button toggles between these two settings.

  • Drag to resize a window . To resize a window, position the mouse over any edge of the window and drag the sizing handle (double-ended arrow) to the size you want. If you drag a corner, the horizontal and vertical proportions of the window will be maintained as you resize it.

  • Close a window . To close a window, click the Close button.
