Chapter 8. XML Connection

Chapter 8. XML Connection

We achieved some success in the previous chapter. We connected to the server and downloaded a data file ”a simple text file. In this chapter we upgrade to an XML file transfer.

We study the XML parser. This component of Flash interprets all XML data. It reads in the XML and builds a standardized memory structure called the Document Object Model (DOM). We consider the DOM in detail and learn our way around its features.

In our explorations, we use the Flash debugger to browse memory. Once we learn to operate this simple debugger, we can examine data directly while the Flash program is running.

This is a must-read chapter.
