Final Thoughts

In this project you've picked up some intermediate layout skills. You've worked with some new InDesign features as well. Most importantly, you've constructed a publication that requires a lot of planning. It requires attention to formatting and formal navigation and crediting features you wouldn't ordinarily see in most marketing material.

Important concepts to keep in mind include

  • Get all the contributors to the project on board with assignments, clear instructions, and deadlines. Manage them and keep in touch with reminders and feedback about submissions.

  • Plan the project with your print service provider in advance of the actual construction, and work out all the details from substrates and ink through special binding and finishing requirements.

  • Decide how you want to handle the financial data you will receivespecifically, tabbed text or tables. The formatting for these choices will be different depending on which feature you go with.

  • Translate some of the data into graphically rich visuals that are clearly labeled and easy to read.

  • Finally, proof early and often. Have your review cycle planned so the people participating in the reviews know what their roles and deadlines are.
