Creating Company T-Shirts

This project covers creating company t-shirts. They will be a wonderful touch when you are called upon to organize a special company event or the launch of a new product or service. This project does not cover the screen printing production requirements for mass production and distribution of T-shirts or other specialty promotional items. See Appendix C, "Printing Processes," for more information.

In this project you will create two InDesign files: One will be for the front of the t-shirt, which will be a small logo placed on the upper-right corner of your t-shirt (as you face the t-shirt) where most logos typically are placed. For this project, you will also learn how to create an imposition, or a step and repeat, of multiple logos to make the most from our iron-on transfer.

For the second file, we will create a much larger image for the back of the t-shirt, which will have a different orientation and scale. Of course, you can experiment with this project in any number of ways.

For those of you familiar with this type of work, an inkjet printer is required. You can't send iron-on transfer sheets through a laser printer because they would melt the substrate and damage your printer. Do not purchase fabric print sheets. A fabric sheet is simply a piece of fabric bonded to paper. You will need iron-on transfer sheets and access to an inkjet printer. For best results, choose paper that's indicated as being compatible with your brand and model of printer.
