14.7 Final Words

One of the most useful features of Tea is hard to demonstrate in a book: its graphical authoring environment named Kettle, shown in Figure 14-5. In addition to the traditional IDE features, Kettle provides real-time feedback on the template authoring process underlining as you type all syntax errors in green, semantic errors in red, and compilation errors in blue. Similar functionality in tools supporting other content creation mechanisms would be wonderful but nearly impossible to provide. Kettle also offers pop-up property examination to help the template creator immediately see what properties are available on any given object. Kettle is available for free but runs only on Windows and is not open source. In addition, there are plans to do an open source reimplementation based on Java Swing.

As you explore Tea and the TeaServlet, you may notice support for special kinds of features are lacking because its creators (WDIG) didn't need them. Being newly open sourced, other users will input their needs and ideas, and the product will grow. Although the Tea language has matured, the TeaServlet is still quite new and there's lots of potential.
