Summary

This has been a long chapter that essentially started with an idea and progressed through the dynamic process to the point where data was fed into a page.

We started the chapter with a discussion of two creative aspects of the design: choosing fonts and designing the "look" of the applications. Chris Flick provided some rather interesting insight into his font choices and how his original sketches had to meet the need for accommodating dynamic data.

From there, we reviewed how to build a template and how we used a Fireworks MX 2004 image as a tracing layer to guide the design. We also explained how to add Draw Layers and use them as Template objects to hold dynamic data.

We then reviewed how to design the CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) document that will actually be used to format text and accurately position the content on the page. The end result is a template that looks remarkably similar to the page created in Fireworks.

With the template created, the page was constructed and linked to the database using Template objects. We showed how to construct a submenu using the facility names from the database and how to add text and images from the database. In addition, we showed you how to control their look and location on the pages through the use of CSS.

We finished the chapter by testing our site. Using the Dreamweaver back-end pages created in Chapter 8, we inputted data that was placed in the MySQL database. This information was then used on the Tour page. We then reviewed the use of the Live Data preview feature of Dreamweaver and how to view the pages in a browser.

In the next chapter, we begin the process of creating an online booking facility. Using this facility, visitors to the Oakbridge site can book baseball diamonds, tennis courts, fitness times, and recreation tickets from the comfort of their homes .
