Using Email to Deliver Your Movies

If there is an unacknowledged killer app on the Web, it has to be email. You can send your movie, as an email attachment, right out of the application. The formats that can be sent include EXE, SWF, HQX (a binary compression format recognized by the Mac), and Linux EXE.

To send a movie via email

1.

Open a movie in Captivate and select File > Publish.

The Publish dialog box opens.

2.

Click the E-Mail button.

The "eMail options" dialog box opens (Figure 13.3).

3.

If you want to rename the file, enter a new name in the Movie Title text entry box.

4.

In the "File type" pop-down menu, select the file type to be sent:

  • Project Files Select to send the file to another Captivate developer.

  • SWF File Select to email the SWF file.

  • Windows executable Select if you are sending the file to a PC user.

  • Macintosh executable file Select if you are sending the file to a Macintosh user.

  • Linux executable file Select if you are sending the file to a Linux user.

5.

Select "Zip files" to compress the file format selected above. The user will need to have WinZip (Windows only) or StuffIt Expander (Mac and PC versions are available) to open the file.

6.

Click the Publish button.

Your email application opens. There is a message in the body of the email, and the file is attached (Figure 13.4). All you need to do is enter the email address.

Tip

  • Depending upon the file type you choose in step 4, the output options will change. For example, if you select Project Files, the only output option is "ZIP files." If you choose to send a SWF, the "ZIP files," "Export HTML," and "Full screen" options are available.
