Icons Used in This Book

See how big these pages are? We have to put something in these wide margins, so we came up with icons. Figuring that they might as well be more than just decorative, we assigned meaning to the pictures you see marking some paragraphs:

Tip 

This book is full of these things. They remind you to tip your waitress. Also, these icons indicate that the paragraph contains an especially usable nugget of information.

Remember 

I throw in a lot of these, too, but I forget why. It’ll come to me.

Technical Stuff 

Rarely, I slip into the kind of technobabble that makes people avoid me at parties. Just slap me when I get like that. And feel free to ignore these paragraphs if you’re not interested — they don’t contain anything you need to know.

Warning 

Using Google is considerably safer than leaping out of an airplane with a sack full of bowling balls, so I don’t often have reason to issue warnings. But when I do, get the kids to a safe place and board up the windows.
