Where the Mac Fits In

All of today's personal computers have fast processors, fat hard drives, and the other trappings of power. But powerful hardware is only a foundation. Software is what turns that box of chips into a jukebox, a digital darkroom, a movie studio, a recording studio, and a soapbox with a global audience.

Software is what really makes the Macintosh digital hub go around. Each of Apple's iLife programsiTunes for music, iPhoto for photography, iMovie HD for video editing, iDVD for creating DVDs, GarageBand for recording music, iWeb for creating Web sitesgreatly simplifies working with, creating, and combining digital media.

Similar programs are available for PCs running Microsoft Windows. But they aren't included with every PC, and they lack the design elegance and simplicity of Apple's offerings. It's simple: Apple's iLife has made the Mac the best personal computer for digital media.
