The Databases You Can Connect To

What can you connect to? It all depends on what connection methods , such as JDBC or ADO, your database can talk to. The things you can do include:

  • Connecting to your Oracle databases using ODBC or JDBC. See Connecting to an Oracle or Other Database Using ODBC on page 887 and Connecting to an Oracle, MySQL, or Other Database Using JDBC on page 893. We recommend JDBC. Also, note that as with anything involving Oracle it won't be a trivial walk in the park, but it works. Note also that OpenOffice.org can't write to Oracle; this is a known problem, so check the www.sun.com/staroffice site for any updates.

  • Connecting to MySQL databases using JDBC.

  • Connecting to Access databases using ADO.

You can migrate 5.2 databases. See Migrating a StarOffice 5.2 Database and Creating a Data Source on page 902.

There's other stored data that we've grouped in this part, too. See the next page.
