Using Web s Search Connection

Using Web's Search Connection

You can search the Internet from OpenOffice.org.

Note

We're still not sure why OpenOffice.org, in purging other less than vital features, kept the search feature. It's kind of nice, perhaps, to be able to search directly from OpenOffice.org. But it's not that hard to just go to Netscape and search there.

  1. Complete Setting Up the Ability to Search the Web on page 136.

  2. Type what you want to search for in the document, or select it if it's already there. For instance, type +java +fun + softcorejava.com and select the text.

  3. Click the Find icon in the hyperlink bar and select the search engine you want to use, as shown in Figure 14-2.

    Note

Some distributions of OpenOffice.org don't have the hyperlink bar, which contains features like the Search (the Web) icon and the link-creating URL fields. That is, you might have the hyperlink bar, but it's entirely blank. If this is the case, reinstall, and if it still doesn't appear, don't worry about it.

  4. The search engine you selected will be loaded and displayed with your matches in the browser, as shown in Figure 14-3.

The browser used is the one associated in your operating system with the URL:HTTP function.
