A.3. Current Progress

As of this writing in September 2005, Longhorn Server is in beta 1 and is still very rough around the edges. At any time, Microsoft could decide to add or remove features. In fact, the user interface in the beta is very Windows 98-like, without the polish or finish of Windows Server 2003.

Longhorn Server will be a very interesting release, and while it may fall short of being worth the accolade of "revolutionary," it's shaping up to be the most significant release of Windows on the server since the move from NT Server to Windows 2000 Server.

Keep an eye on this release, folks. You'll like what you see.
