Summary

In this chapter, we looked at a lot of problems associated with traditional applications and we saw how Spring can help us solve these problems. We discussed a variety of different problems that occur during application development, and we looked at sensible ways in which these problems can be solved effectively. Throughout the chapter, we examined how the practices we discussed were used when we built the SpringBlog application, and we even took a peek at some of the code from the Spring sample applications to see how the principles we discussed were applied there.

This chapter only scratched the surface of application design as a whole, but we have honed in on the issues that are specific to Spring-based applications and problems that you can fix easily when using Spring. For a fuller discussion of application design, refer to the books mentioned throughout the chapter.

In the next chapter we present a detailed look at transaction support, including full examples of both local and distributed transactions and some useful tips for testing transactional methods.
