Bob White also taught me to think about the big picture and to consider his vision of the current and future trends affecting IBM and its apparel customers, rather than just focusing on my branch office job as an IBM systems engineer. Bob had started out, like most top executives at IBM, as a lowly branch office marketing representative ( salesman ); his ability to surpass his sales quota and his ability to sell himself to upper management got him quickly promoted to higher levels in the branch and the company. Bob ultimately traveled much of the world, sometimes with me in tow, and he wowed them everywhere.
