Make Loan Payments

To make a loan payment, you'll use the Loans window in Quicken for either Windows or Mac. The Loans window helps you make payments, and if you want to make an extra payment (such as an extra payment to go towards the loan's principal balance), you can do that, too.

On Windows, choose Property & Debt > Loans. The View Loans window appears.

The loan details are in the Loan Summary tab of the View Loans window. If you have more than one loan, you can switch between them with the Choose Loan menu at the top of the window.

Click the Make Payment button. Quicken asks if this is a regular payment, or an extra payment. Click Regular or Extra.

Depending on which button you clicked, the Make Regular Payment or Make Extra Payment dialog appears. Aside from the name , the dialogs are identical, except that the regular payment amount is already filled in, and you must fill in the amount of an extra payment. Choose the account from which you want to make the payment from the Account to use pop-up menu, review the other information in the window, and click OK to record the payment.

On the Mac, open the account register for the bank account from which you will make the loan payment. Choose Lists > Loans. The Loans window appears.

Select the loan for which you want to enter a payment and click the Use button, or simply double-click the loan's name. The Payment dialog appears.

Enter any adjustments needed in the Payment dialog, then click OK. Quicken will enter the loan payment in the account register.
