You usually don't need to enter payments to the credit card in the credit card register. When you make a payment to the credit card from your checking account, you will use a transfer category in the checking account register to show that money has flowed from the checking account to the credit card account, thereby decreasing the balance of the credit card account. Quicken automatically makes a corresponding entry in the credit card account. If you need more information about transfer categories, see transfer money in Chapter 4. This $200 payment in the checking account register uses a transfer category for the destination of the transfer (the credit card account), which you can recognize because it is surrounded by square brackets ( [] ).
The automatic entry made in the credit card account shows the payment. The category field in the credit card account shows the transfer category for the account the payment came from, in this case the checking account.
