Pay Bills Online


Paying bills online is a lot like entering any other payment in your checking account register, except that you don't have to actually write a paper check. Just enter the payment in Quicken and send it off.

Begin by opening the account register that you want to use to make the payment. Click in the blank transaction at the bottom of the register. Enter the date that you want the online payment to occur. This date can't be today's date; because it takes a few days to process the online payment, you must pick a future date. Different payees take different amounts of time to be paid, and your bank knows how long it takes for most payees. If you want to know how many days it takes for a payment to post, open the Online Payees List, and look at the Lead Time column. Press Tab.

In the Num field of the register, type S , which will bring up the pop-up menu set to Send Online Payment (on the Mac, it's just Send). Press the Tab key to get to the Payee field.

In the Payee field, begin typing the name of one of your online payees. Quicken's QuickFill feature will complete the name after a few letters . If you type a name that is not in the Online Payees List, it will walk you through the process of adding a new online payee. Enter the payment amount, category, and ( optionally ) a memo, then click Enter (Record). Repeat as needed to enter more payments.

To send your payments, do a One Step Update.
