Use Web Connect

If your financial institution supports the Direct Connect connection method to download transactions, you should always use that, as it is more convenient than Web Connect. But some institutions only support Web Connect , which uses a Web browser to connect to the financial institution's Web site, where you can then download a file containing your transactions. You then import the downloaded file into Quicken. On Windows, Quicken uses an embedded version of Internet Explorer to connect to the financial institution's Web site. On the Mac, you can use Safari or Internet Explorer. To use Web Connect for the first time, you will need to obtain a welcome kit from your financial institution, which will include a user ID and PIN.

A new browser window will open to the login page of your financial institution's Web site. Enter your account name and password, and log in.

Use the Web site to navigate to where you can download your account statement. Each financial institution's Web site differs , and they may call the option "Download statement," "Download account activity," or something similar. Follow the on-screen instructions to download the file.

Quicken automatically imports the file, and the Online Update Summary window appears. Click the Go to Register button for the account you just downloaded.

The register appears, with the downloaded transactions in the bottom pane of the register. See the compare transactions section later in this chapter to learn how to deal with the downloaded transactions.

On the Mac, use your Web browser to log in to your financial institution's Web site. Navigate to where you can download your account statement, then follow the on-screen instructions to download the file. After the file has downloaded, Quicken will automatically launch and import the file (if you are using Safari or Internet Explorer). When Quicken is done with the downloaded transactions, the Online Transmission Summary appears. Click OK, and Quicken displays the Download Transactions window. See the compare transactions section to learn how to deal with the downloaded transactions.
