Chapter 1. Getting Started With Keynote

 < Day Day Up >

Welcome to Keynote! Keynote 2, part of the iWork '05 package from Apple Computer, is an exciting presentation program that can help you create compelling presentations with a minimum of effort. Keynote's gorgeous presentation themes, superior text handling, attractive animations, and excellent graphics capabilities allow you to deliver your ideas with maximum visual impact.

This visual power doesn't come at the price of complexity; it's easy to build a Keynote presentation, whether you're a novice speaker or a polished presenter. But don't be fooled into thinking that because Keynote is easy to use, it lacks power; there's a lot of substance behind that pretty face.

As the newcomer on the block, Keynote does an excellent job of getting along with the competition, namely the venerable Microsoft PowerPoint. Keynote imports from and exports to PowerPoint format, so you're able to share your Keynote presentations with other Mac users who have Microsoft Office, or with your Windows-using colleagues.

In this chapter, you'll learn how to install and start Keynote, see an overview of the program's workspace, customize the Keynote interface, and ask the program for help. Let's get started with Keynote.
