Things to check before saving your Keynote presentation file as a theme file

 < Day Day Up >

  • Master slide names match Apple master slide names , at least for the basic 11 layouts.

  • Master slide names are the same for custom master slides across different versions of your own themes. This makes it easier for the user to switch themes.

  • Master slide backgrounds are properly set up (there should be no leftover backgrounds from the theme you used as the starter theme).

  • Background images placed on master slides cover the entire slide (with no edges showing).

  • Turn on "Allow objects on slide to layer with master" for slides with photo cutouts .

  • Check photo cutouts to see that they work and don't have transparency problems.

  • If you will be using bleed type photo cutouts (cutouts where the photo extends off the edge of the slide), test the master slide with the Cube or Push transition for proper alignment across slides.

  • Check and lock table settings for all slide masters, or at least for those slide masters that may contain tables. Make sure you set font settings when you create table settings.

  • Set default object styles throughout the theme.

  • Set default text font and styles throughout the theme.

  • Check font settings on blank slides and slides with no Body or Title box checked, so that if the user decides to turn on the Body or Title box, it will match the styles used in the rest of the theme.

  • Check the font and style of page numbers on master slides to confirm they match your theme style.

  • Check fonts in all charts for proper color , size , and shadow settings.

  • If you are using custom chart grid colors, turn on and check both axes of chart grids, even if one set will be turned back off before you save the theme.

  • Set up the first regular slide of your .key file as the Theme Preview image.
