Preflighting a PDF is a relatively simple matter. You open the document and select a profile and Acrobat checks your document against the rules contained within the profile. When it is done, it displays a report letting you know which rules, if any, have been violated. This information then allows you to go back to your source document and make any necessary changes.

1.
Run Preflight

From the Advanced menu, select Preflight . This opens the Preflight dialog box, displaying the Profiles window by default.

2.
Select Preflight Profile

Select a profile from the list box. Notice that when you select a profile, the text box below gives a brief description of that preflight profile. You can apply the preflight profile to a range of pages by selecting the Preflight Only Pages option. Click the Execute button to run the preflight profile.

3.
View the Results

The Results window is automatically displayed when Acrobat has finished preflighting. The rules list displays the rules contained in the profile. If a profile rule is violated, a red X appears next to that rule.

4.
Create the Preflight Report

Click the Report command to create a preflight report, which brings up the Save As dialog box. The filename is the name of the original file, with _report appended to it. You have a choice of the type of report you want to save it as, such as a PDF, XML, or text report. You also have the option to create an overview and detailed report of the preflight errors of your document. Click the check box next to either or both options.

5.
Add Preflight Comments to a PDF

Click the Comments command to embed the preflight errors into the document as notes. An Embed Report information box appears, letting you know how many results will be added. Click the Embed button to add comments to the PDF.
