Create a Navigation Link Before You Begin 32 About Interactivity See Also 37 Edit a Link After creating a PDF document, you might want to include links in the document that take the reader to other pages or to a specific target view to draw attention to a portion of a particular page. To do so, simply create a link that points to that particular page or view. 1. | Create a Link From the Tools menu, under the Advanced Editing submenu, select the Link tool. If you have the Advanced Editing toolbar displayed, click the Link Tool button, indicated by the two connecting gold chain links. While the Link Tool is selected, the cursor becomes a cross-hair and any preexisting links become visible. TIP | To create a navigation link between two documents, go through the steps described in this task, but when the Create Go to View dialog box appears, don't navigate to another page in the current document. Instead, use the Open command in the File menu to open a second document and navigate to the page, magnification level, and page location you want; then click the Set Link button. This creates a link in the original document that takes the viewer to a location in the second document. When linking to another PDF document, it is important to remember that the readers must have access to all the linked documents; otherwise , they will be unable to view the linked PDF. Be sure to include all the files and folders for a PDF when sending it to readers. You can also set a link to open another file, not just link to another page in a different PDF document. When creating a link, in the Create Link dialog box under the Link Action section, select the Open a File option. Navigate to the file you want Acrobat to open when the reader clicks the link. | Press and drag the cross-hairs to create a rectangle at the location you want to create a link. This displays the Create Link dialog box, which allows you to change the appearance of a link and its action. | 2. | Define the Link Appearance In the Link Appearance section in the Create Link dialog box, set the Link Type to Invisible Rectangle or Visible Rectangle. Then select a Highlight Style of None, Invert, Outline, or Inset. If you are using a visible rectangle, select a Line Thickness of Thin, Medium, or Thick and a Line Style of Solid, Dashed, or Underlined.
