25 Summarize Comments in a PDF

Whereas the standard commenting tools are typically used for text-heavy documents, the drawing markup tools are well-suited for design-heavy documents, such as flow charts , engineering specs , presentations, ad proposals, and other documents that contain visual information. This does not mean the drawing markup tools cannot be used on text documents. Acrobat's drawing markup tools are ideal any time it is easier to show a change rather than explain it. Many of the drawing tools enable you to point to a specific location in a document instead of having to try to describe where a change needs to be made.

1.
Open the Review Document and Select a Markup Tool

Under the File menu, select the Open command to locate and open the PDF document to be reviewed.

From the Tools menu, click the Drawing Markups submenu and select one of the drawing markup tools. The drawing markup submenu is divided into two sections. The top section contains the Callout, Cloud, Dimension , and Text Box tools. The bottom section contains the Arrow, Rectangle, Oval, Line, Polygon Line, Polygon, Pencil , and Pencil Eraser tools. The tools in the top section create markups that consist of both graphical and text components , whereas the tools in the bottom section are primarily graphical in nature. Selecting any of these tools changes your cursor to a crosshair, which you will be using in the next step.

2.
Add Comments

With the crosshair drawing markup cursor, click and drag to define the dimensions or direction of the drawing markup graphic. If you selected one of the tools from the top section, type in your comments as well. If you selected one of the tools from the bottom section, additional comments are not expected. However, you can add comments to any of the graphics created by the tools in the bottom section by double-clicking the graphic itself and typing your comments into the pop-up comment window.
