Cropping refers to setting display or print boundaries that are smaller than the original document dimensions. Acrobat allows you to crop several different types of document margins for screen display, printing, high-end printing, and print production.

Cropping only defines what portion of the document is displayed or printed, it does not actual alter the information in the document in any way.

1.
Choose Margin Type

From the Document menu, select the Crop Pages command. In the Crop Pages dialog box, select which type of margin you want to work with:

  • Crop The default option, it defines the area of the document that will be displayed or printed.

  • Trim Defines what the document will look like after it has been professionally printed and trimmed , folded, or otherwise prepared.

  • Bleed Defines the area of the document that will be printed if the printing is done at a professional print facility. The bleed is the area of a document outside the intended final dimensions.

  • Art Defines the boundary of the page, including white space.

You can also select the Show All Boxes check box if you want to see indicators for all four margins in the preview, or you can leave it unchecked to see only the margin you are working with.

2.
Set Margins

After you have selected your margin type, either click the up and down arrows or type in values for the Top, Bottom, Left , and Right margins. The margin indicators in the preview move to show you how the different values will affect your document.

TIP

Acrobat offers two ways to set cropping dimensions: The margin controls in the Crop Pages dialog box or the Crop tool. To select the Crop tool, go to the Advanced Editing submenu found under Tools . Using the Crop tool enables you to manually set the cropping dimensions by dragging a rectangle around a portion of the page. After you have defined the cropping dimensions, press the Enter key to open the Crop Pages dialog box and finish the process.

If you want to use identical values for all four margins, select the Constrain Proportions check box. To reset all values to 0, click the Set to Zero button.

3.
Choose Page Range

In the Page Range section of the Crop Pages dialog box, specify which pages you want to affect. You can choose from three options when selecting a page range. You can select All pages to crop, just the Selected page (the page currently active in the document window), or a specific Page Range . After selecting the page range, click OK to accept the new values.

4.
View the Results

Use the Page Down key or click the Next Page button at the bottom of the document window to view your modified document. If you are not happy with the result, simply return to the Document menu, select the Crop Pages command again, and either change the margins or set them back to zero.
