7.6 Management Command-Line Utilities

Windows 2000 introduced a trend to have both GUI and command-line tools for systems management. Windows Server 2003 continues that theme with command-line tools available for managing the following:

• File system features, including defragmentation

• Volume shadow copy service

• Volumes, disks, and partitions

• Remote Storage Services (RSS)

Windows Server 2003 also accelerates the trend introduced in Windows 2000 to provide performance and management information using WMI. Modifications to more parts of the operating system, to provide management information using the WMI architecture ”including Storport, volume shadow copy service, and the distributed file system, to provide some examples ”are now included in the base code.
