You can write the best document in the world, but if it appears cramped and crowded and readers have to work to decipher it, chances are that it won t be read. This chapter shows you how to use the formatting features of Microsoft Office Word 2003 to make your document look like something that people will want to read. Word includes some automatic features (such as AutoFormat and themes) that can make formatting less of a chore and gives you a wide range of options you can use to tailor your documents to look just the way you want them to look.
For a simple, quick format with a professional look, try creating your document based on Word s ready-to-use templates. You ll find templates for memos, fax cover sheets, reports , Web pages, and more. To see which templates are available in Word, choose New from the File menu, and then click the link you want in the Templates area of the New Document task pane. Remember, too, that you can make your own templates from favorite documents you create.
