Using the Thesaurus

The Thesaurus in Word 2003 has been enhanced and tied in with the Research task pane. To use the Thesaurus, select the word you want to look up and then press Shift+F7. The Research task pane appears, showing you options from several different language dictionaries, as well as a Translation selection. To display the synonyms for the word you selected, click the resource you want to view. A list of alternative words is displayed from that reference. To use one of the displayed words, click it and click the down arrow that appears to the right of the word. Click the action you want to take; Insert, Copy, or Look Up the word to see whether it will fit what you re trying to say (see Figure 4-6).
