The most important things for installing the Office System are, of course, a computer and the Office System. Here s the essential ingredients list the Office System needs in order to run on your computer:
A personal computer with a Pentium 133 MHz or higher processor (Pentium III is recommended)
Microsoft Windows 2000 with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or Microsoft Windows XP
64 MB of RAM (but 128 MB is recommended), with an additional 8 MB for each application you intend to run simultaneously
At least 245 MB disk storage space
CD-ROM drive
SuperVGA or higher resolution monitor
Mouse, trackball , touchpad, or other pointing device
Printer (optional)
Modem (optional, for Internet- related features)
Microphone (optional, for speech features)
Graphics tablet (optional, for handwriting recognition)
Before you install, be sure to make a backup of all your important files, just in case there s a glitch and something goes wrong. That s not likely, but it s always better to be safe than dataless.
Note | If you will be using the Shared Workspace features (in Microsoft Office Word 2003, Excel, and PowerPoint), creating Meeting Workspaces (in Outlook), or creating data-driven Web sites (in FrontPage), you need to install and run Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services.
