Exiting Programs

When you find yourself stumbling over application windows you don t really need, it s time to close a few. Click the Close box in the upper right corner of the program window ( marked with a red X).

Note

The small X to the right of the Ask-A-Question box in the application window (just beneath the Close box) closes the file in which you re working but leaves the application open .

If you have made any modifications to the files in the program windows since the last time you saved the files, the Office application will display a warning message, asking whether you d like to save the changes you made to the file. If you want to save your work, click Yes (and read on to the Saving Files section). If you want to let your changes go, click No or Cancel. The application discards your changes and closes the program window.

Now that you know the basic procedures for working with applications once you get into them, you re ready for some of the common tasks that all the Office System applications share. These operations include opening files, working with the Clipboard, saving files, and printing files.
