If you re like most of us, you re going to get many more messages you want to delete than messages you want to keep. Spam ” unsolicited junk e-mail ”is big business, and until you learn how to filter out unwanted messages (which is covered in Chapter 14, Organizing with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 ), just expect to get lots of messages you don t want to read.
To delete the unwanted messages (or messages you ve read and no longer need), select the messages and press Delete. The messages are sent to the Deleted Items folder and they will remain there (just in case you want to retrieve something) until you empty the folder by choosing Empty Deleted Items Folder from the Tools menu. When you choose this command, Outlook displays a message box asking you to confirm. Click Yes to complete the deletion.
