About the Author

I guess you may also want to know who I am. I am a programmer and instructor, and I teach C# classes to various companies. I have even taught Microsoft consultants about C# and the .NET Framework. I work for a company called DevelopMentor, and have written a number of books, including C# & VB.NET Conversion Pocket Reference, COM+ Programming With Visual Basic, and Activex Controls With Visual Basic 5.0. I've also co- authored Distributed Applications with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0: MCSD Training Kit, and Programming Internet Controls (way back when).

I have been teaching C# since it was legal to do so, which was after its announcement at the PDC conference in 2000. I've tried to model this book around the things that have worked best when teaching C#.

When I teach, students often tell me that what they like best about my teaching style are the demos I do. I like to code my demos on the fly, from scratch. Here is what I normally do when I teach: At the beginning of each lesson I start a project. Then, as I cover a few slides, I add code to the project. I have tried to copy the same style in the book. At the beginning of each chapter I start a project. Then, after covering several topics, I ask you to add code to the project that relates to the concepts you've just learned.
