Answers

1.

Using SharePoint 2007, you can create content sources based on the following storage locations:

  • SharePoint sites

  • Websites (Non-SharePoint)

  • File shares

  • Exchange public folders

  • Lotus Notes

  • Applications via the Business Data Catalog

2.

A Full Crawl is a complete inventory of content available in a content source. An Incremental Crawl is a review of all items that have been added or changed since the last update.

3.

The first requirement is to identify how to distinguish content related to the European region from all other content. This may be best accomplished via a site column. However, you may identify that each region has a variety of content storage locations they take advantage of. Some of these may be within SharePoint; others may not.

Once you identify how to distinguish the content, you can create a custom scope that limits the index to items related only to the European region. This may be via a managed property based on a Regions site column, or it may be via a specific web address or content source. Once you create the scope, you can make it available via the Scope drop-down list, a custom search entry and results page, or via the Advanced Search interface.

4.

A best bet is a web address associated with a custom keyword that appears prominently when a user makes a search request using that keyword. Best bet results are returned in the right-hand column of the search results in an order that the administrator specifies.

5.

False. In order for the system to index PDFs, you must add this file type to the list of extensions indexed by the system. Additionally, you must install an iFilter on the server. This iFilter is available for download from the Adobe website.
