6.1. Introduction

In this chapter, we discuss and walk through the concepts and methodologies for migrating your physical machines into a virtual environment. We also discuss the pros and cons of each methodology as well as the requirements and considerations for each.

We examine both free methods to perform a p-to-v migration as well as tools you can purchase to assist you. The essential component of the method or product you choose is that you are comfortable in performing it and attain the result you set out forwhich, of course, is a smooth and successful migration.
