27.3. Larger-Scale Use with Virtual Wiki

FitNesse pages are available through the Web, providing easy access to the tests by all developers on a project. Multiple developers can work in parallel, each running the Fit tests from a common FitNesse server against the code that's being developed on their own machines.

Each developer runs a FitNesse system on his or her own machine and refers to subwikis on the FitNesse server running on a common machine. This allows the developers to define their own paths to access the code they are working on. Changes to those tests can be made by anyone with appropriate access rights to the tables on a single server; the tests are automatically available to all developers through the virtual wiki. (This is analogous to file sharing across the network.)

A virtual wiki link from a page on the local machine is made by clicking the Properties button for that page and entering a suitable URL in the VirtualWiki URL field. Thereafter, accesses to that local page reference the corresponding subwiki on the common machine. To see what pages are available from the virtual wiki, you will need to put !contents on the local page that refers to the page on the server.
