Your Call to Action

This chapter has helped you understand some of the mobile device options at your disposal. You shouldn't consider this chapter complete or comprehensive ”mobile device development kits abound. This chapter only discussed some of the more popular options. However, the concepts in this chapter apply equally well to other kinds of mobile development and you can apply the lessons learned to other language products discussed in the book. For example, it's perfectly acceptable to create a mobile device solution using PHP or Java ”all you need is a little inspiration.

Now that you have a little more perspective of what's possible, it's time to consider what types of mobile device you want to provide for your Google Web Services application. One mistake that developers make is to assume they must include support for every available device and that's simply not possible ”at least not without a major investment in time and resources. A better path is to choose one or two devices to begin development and add additional devices as needed.

Chapters 4 through 8 introduced you to various language options. In each of these chapters, you learned how to access Google Web Services using various techniques. Now it's time to refine those examples and explore other ways to use Google Web Services. Chapter 10 takes you beyond simple database applications into refined database development. You also learn other techniques for creating a finely crafted application that helps users get the information they need faster.
