In Israel, the Day's Calendar Is Changed by Somebody ElseGilo ¢ When Ariel Sharon won the Israel election for prime minister in 2001, one of his focal points was the economy. He has a strong background based on economics having served as Israel's finance minister, minister of industrial development, and housing minister. He was mindful of needed economic changes. But there are days when he wakes up in the morning and suddenly there is an attack on a bus and 10 people have been killed . His day is changed and the economic policies become less urgent. You and I have more control of our daily calendar than he does. We prepared a report with a significant list of changes. I believe Sharon was honestly committed to doing something about it. But the mindset of everybody in Israel is now on security for daily life, not paying attention to the economy. |
