Biometrics

A statistical method of scanning an individual’s unique characteristics, normally body parts, to ensure that they are who they say they are. Some of the scanned elements include voiceprints, irises, fingerprints, hands, and facial features. The two most popular elements are irises and fingerprints because they’re the two that most people are familiar with. The advantages of using biometrics are obvious. It’s unlikely the user will lose their identifying information and, with proper scanning techniques, the identifying information can’t be compromised either.

Buffer Overrun

A memory condition normally associated with a variable in which the application assigned more data to the variable than the variable is capable of holding. The excess data runs into other memory locations, which corrupts the information in those memory locations. In many cases, the buffer overrun affects other variables. However, when used maliciously, a buffer overrun can also overwrite other areas of memory such as code blocks or the application stack, causing the application to fail or perform tasks that the originator didn’t intend.
