Summary

As we examined in this chapter, library items provide the same flexibility that templates do in that content can be globalized yet centrally maintained. In the chapter, we introduced library items, discussing the differences between them and templates. We also reviewed how they are created and managed using the Assets panel, how they're edited, updated, renamed, and deleted. At the end of the chapter, we looked at server-side includes, their similarities with library items, and how they differ in that they can communicate with the server by returning important server-side messages, date and time values, and so on.

In the next chapter, we'll begin our switch, moving from task automation and workflow enhancement to incorporating multimedia and animation. We'll look at DHTML, the Timeline, and Dreamweaver's integration with complimentary programs such as Fireworks and Flash.
