Configuring a Remote Access Server

Some of the profile settings described in the previous section must have corresponding entries on the remote access server. This section covers those settings as well as other specific configurations that can be performed on a server. To make configuration changes to a remote access server, open Routing And Remote Access, right-click the server name in the console tree, and choose Properties from the shortcut menu. The various settings available in the Properties window are as follows:

• Authentication Settings To access the authentication settings, click the Security tab in the server's Properties window, and then click the Authentication Methods button. By default, Microsoft's Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocols (MS-CHAP and MS-CHAP v2) are selected.
• IP Routing and Assignment The IP tab on the server's Properties window gives access to the IP parameters. By default, the profiles in remote access policies use the server's settings for IP addresses. In turn, the server defaults to allowing IP routing and to assignment of IP addresses using DHCP. If you need to use a static address pool, choose that option and provide a range of addresses to be assigned to connections.
• Multilink And The BAP Click the PPP tab to access the options for enabling Multilink and the BAP. See the section "Enabling Multilink and the Bandwidth Allocation Protocol," earlier in this chapter, for more information.
• Other Protocols On the PPP tab, click Software Compression to enable (or remove) support for the Microsoft Point-to-Point Compression (MPPC) protocol .You can also select the Link Control Protocol (LCP) Extensions to PPP.
