In its first edition, this book required the attention of numerous true experts and specialists. Even if there had been time enough to complete such a substantial volume, the range of subjects and the degree of expertise necessary to do justice to a complex product meant that we needed help.
For this edition, all the revisions were handled by the three authors. However, we were working with splendid original material provided by the following people.
Tom Fronckowiak (LJL Enterprises) contributed two of the original chapters on security. His insights and experience were invaluable in helping explain both the concepts and implementation of protective measures in Windows 2000.
L. J. Locher was our expert on performance monitoring and tuning. She wrote about the subject in depth and with admirable clarity.
Mitch Tulloch (MTIT Enterprises, http://www.mtit.com) is the expert's expert on Internet services, and he provided the first edition's chapters on Internet Information Services and Internet Explorer.
Paul E. Robichaux (Robichaux & Associates, Inc.) is the computer world's Renaissance man. He is an expert on more subjects than seems fair to the rest of us. He contributed chapters on Macintosh services, Certificate Services, and managing the registry to the first book.
Craig Zacker made enormously valuable contributions on the subjects of Active Directory and Backup. His material on Active Directory was exemplary and required virtually no changes from one edition to the next.
