A standard for a directory service established by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). The same standard is also published by the International Standards Organization/International Electro-technical Commission (ISO/IEC). The X.500 standard defines the information model used in the directory service. All information in the directory is stored in entries, each of which belongs to at least one object class. The actual information in an entry is determined by attributes that are contained in that entry.
