Video adapters based on video chips (also known as graphics processors) from Nvidia and ATI Technologies are currently the most popular. To achieve maximum performance and stable operation of their products, both Nvidia and ATI developed reference designs for video adapters based on their chips. These specifications, combined with recommendations from Nvidia and ATI, serve as the standard for companies manufacturing video adapters.
