You need a stable platform for your camcorder, preferably a sturdy tripod, and the camera remote. You're after zero camera movement. Even pushing the record button can cause some shaking.

Park the playhead where you want to cut, and press Command-T.

With two cuts, you've created the piece ahead of the clip you like, the clip you like, and the piece that trails the clip you like.

Simply delete the pieces you don't like.

A 1-second cross dissolve between clips works very well.

Plug the iSight into your Mac. Toggle the input/editing switch to the camera icon for capturing video. From the camera drop-down menu, choose iSight. When you see the picture, click Record With iSight to start capturing. Click Record With iSight again or press the spacebar to stop recording.
