Custom cursors are created in three steps. First, you create a movie clip that follows the cursor around the screen. Second, you use Mouse.hide() to hide the real cursor. Third, you make sure that the cursor is on top of all other movie clips.

You can detect when the mouse rolls over a button or movie clip in a variety of ways. Buttons have special on handlers, whereas movie clips need more complex scripts.

Because you know when the cursor enters and leaves a button or movie clip, you can use this to trigger rollovers that appear in such cases. This can lead to a variety of information display and quick reference applications.
