Dedication

I would like to continue dedicating this book to my friend Michael Anthony Ternasky and to my father, Joel Rosenberg.

My mentor Michael "MT" Ternasky was killed in an automobile accident shortly before I started film school. Mike was the impetus for my pursuing that dream and for naming my production company Formika Films. I dedicate the work I do to his memory.

Mike grew up as a rebel with a passion to be the best at whatever he did. When I first met him, he ran a skateboard company called H-Street, and he ran it to top capacity. When Mike died, he had formed his own "super" skateboard company, Plan B, which pooled together the best skateboarders in the world and produced some of the most groundbreaking and influential skateboard videos to date. I was fortunate enough to be a part of those videos and to have been educated in the "MT Filming and Editing School of Hard Knocks" under his direction.

In dealing with the grief that followed Mike's death, I became close friends with his older brother Joe who, at the time, worked at Adobe Systems. Knowing that my editing skills were strong, Joe suggested that I try my hand at testing Adobe editing software. After I was turned down as a tester for the Quality Assurance Team (no college degree at the time, and no formal computer experience), Joe got me an interview with the engineering team that wrote the code for Adobe Premiere. Nick Schlott (then the engineering manager) took a gamble and hired me to test the program from an editor's perspective. I was to communicate directly with the engineers about what wasn't working and what needed changing. That was almost twelve years ago, and my relationship with Adobe continues to this day.

I tell this story as a means of showing the amazing and positive twists and turns that can come from a tragic event. By acknowledging the impact of someone's life and death on my own life, I am able to keep pushing forward.

At age 67, my father sets a precedent for enthusiasm, energy, and passion. Riding a few hundred miles a week on his bicycle and challenging himself daily, he continually aspires to do more and learn more about the world. My father has contributed greatly to the person I am today by teaching me the power of communication and the overwhelming value of educating and inspiring the people around you. This past year my father and I rode in a fundraiser riding from San Francisco to Los Angeles in an effort to raise money for HIV/AIDS. Taking a week of my life and devoting it to such a task and such an experience was a chance of a lifetime and I am grateful my father inspired me to participate with him and make a difference.

I dedicate this book to my two friends and two fathers. Thank you for your knowledge, passion, and guidance.
