Burning to Disc

If you are happy with your customized DVD Layout, it's time to burn to disc or write the DVD out to files. If you have been using one project for this chapter, you can complete it in this lesson, or you can open the Custom_DV04_FINISH.prproj project from the APPST2 Lesson Files/Chapter 16 folder.

1.

With your DVD Layout completely customized for the active DVD sequence, click on the Burn DVD button in the DVD Layout panel.

2.

In the resulting dialog, set the Burn to button to Disc and name the disc Italy Montage.

3.

In the Encoding area, click the Settings button and choose NTSC Progressive 4:3 High Quality 7Mb CBR 1 Pass from the Preset drop-down menu in the Adobe Media Encoder (top right). In the Basic Video settings set the Frame Rate to 23.976, and in the GOP settings set the N Frames value to 12. Click OK in the bottom right of the Encoder to get back to the Burn DVD dialog, then click that dialog's Burn button to execute the burn to disc.

As Chapter 11 explained, when you click the Burn DVD button in the DVD Layout panel and access the Encoding settings, the Adobe Media Encoder opens with settings already in place for authoring DVDs. Because you are authoring a 24p DV project (the project settings for the montage) you chose the NTSC Progressive 4:3 presets and adjusted the frame rate to 24p (23.976). Because the DVD content is quite short you chose the High Quality 7Mb CBR 1 Pass flavor of the presets.

Notes

In the final step of the Burning to Disc lesson you changed the N Frames value from 15 to 12 in the Adobe Media Encoder. Due to a glitch in the software, you will always have to change the N Frames value when encoding a progressive frame project. If Adobe addresses this glitch in a future release of the software, check the Read Me file to see if this issue has been resolved. If you still have issues, even with the N Frames adjustment, import the progressive project into a new interlaced project and export to DVD from the new project.

Congratulations. You got through a detailed chapter that revealed a specific workflow to help you author a consistently themed DVD directly from the timeline.
