What's New in This Edition

This book is the third edition; the original came out in 2000 and was focused on Windows 2000 Servers with Windows 2000 clients . Then I revised it for Windows 2003 and Windows XP. Now, it's time to get focused on the long push before Longhorn: Windows XP/SP2 and Windows 2003/SP1.

With Windows XP/SP2 and Windows 2003, there's more "stuff" that you can do than ever before. To that end, we'll carefully guide you where Windows XP/SP2 or Windows 2003/SP1 differs from, say, Windows XP pre-SP2 or Windows 2003 SP1 in operation and function. On the other hand, unless otherwise noted, they'll act the same as their predecessors. In other words, not to worry; I'll be quite sure to point out the Windows XP/SP2 and Windows 2003/ SP1 changes to you.

I've also taken special care to try to squash any remaining inaccuracies, gaffes, or outright errors the previous edition might have had.

I've also tried to add various points to clarify where things need clarifying and to give you any new "notes from the field" tips, tricks, and experiences.

In all, I hope you'll enjoy this new edition. It's not as big a change as the Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 version of the book was. However, you've already told me you like this version; you already like the story, the examples, and the adviceyou just want an update.
