Analog Video Output

Better digital cameras have analog video outputs, which you can use for image preview or as a video source. For example, you can set your digital camera up in a studio and use a conventional television monitor for big-screen previews of your shots. Or you can record images from your digital still camera on a VCR or, with a video input, on your computer. Note that you cannot get video images at the full resolution of your camera.

Analog video outputs of digital cameras typically follow the standards for the part of the world in which the cameras are marketed. The standards in Europe, most of Asia, Africa, and South America differ from those of North America and Japan. Buy a camera meant for the wrong market, and you may not be able to use the analog video outputs. The analog video outputs of digital cameras meant for North America and Japan usually follow the National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) video standard, which is fully described in Chapter 24 , "Video Systems."
