Summary

In this chapter, we have looked at how to use the classes in the System.Management namespace, and at the underlying WMI and WBEM architecture that underpins these classes. We have seen that by using WMI, it is possible in just a few lines of source code to interact with the environment, the operating system, the running processes, and the hardware in a very powerful way to perform management and monitoring tasks. Besides having a glimpse of some of the things you can do using WMI, we have developed examples to browse the WMI namespaces, list the processors on the local machine, and warn the user if the horizontal display resolution falls below 1024 pixels. These examples between them illustrate synchronous and asynchronous WMI queries, and receiving notifications of WMI events.
