24.0 Introduction

 <  Day Day Up  >

The .NET Framework introduced a radically different method of application development and deployment from the methods being used at the time. It was entirely natural to express interoperability concerns with legacy components because a tremendous amount of time and money was spent developing them. To alleviate these concerns, the .NET Framework was designed to integrate with legacy and future Component Object Model (COM) components with a minimal amount of work. Even though .NET has been around for a few years , the COM is still being used extensively for component development and is still supported within Visual Studio .NET 2003 with its additions to the Active Template Library (ATL) 7.0. This chapter demonstrates how to effectively integrate objects built using COM with your .NET application and vice versa.
